Chapter 01

Stamped & Textured Concrete Pool Decks

A pool deck takes more abuse than almost any other surface on your property. It's wet constantly, exposed to chlorine and sun, and has to stay safe to walk on barefoot in summer heat. Florida pool decks fail for predictable reasons: poor drainage, surfaces that get too hot to stand on, and finishes that aren't built for constant moisture.

Stamped concrete gives you the look of stone, tile, or wood at a lower cost and with less long-term maintenance than those materials. More important for a pool deck, textured and stamped finishes provide slip resistance that smooth concrete doesn't.

Perkins installs knockdown, broom, and stamped textures designed to stay cool underfoot and safe when wet.

Drainage first, because the water has nowhere else to go

Drainage matters more around a pool than almost anywhere else on a property. A deck that doesn't slope correctly pools water at the edges, which leads to algae growth, staining, and eventually erosion under the deck itself.

That is the same argument Perkins makes on every job, with less room for error. The sub-base gets prepared and the deck gets graded to move water away from the pool structure and your home's foundation, and that is settled during the site evaluation, before a form goes up.

Chapter 03

Heat: the color and texture conversation

Dark, smooth concrete in direct Florida sun gets too hot to walk on barefoot by midday.

Surface temperature is the factor most contractors don't account for upfront. Lighter colors and textured finishes both reduce surface temperature compared to dark, smooth concrete. Color and texture options get talked through during the estimate specifically to manage heat, not just appearance, and the right combination depends on how much sun your deck actually takes.

Concrete or paver surrounds, and who we build them for

Perkins builds pool surrounds in concrete and in pavers, for homeowners, builders, and commercial properties including HOAs and apartment complexes. Commercial pool deck installation and repair is part of the work, and commercial estimates are provided within 10 days.

Most residential pool decks take 4 to 6 days depending on size and finish. Stamped and textured finishes add curing and sealing time, and you get a specific timeline during your free estimate. Matching an existing deck for a repair or expansion is possible in most cases, and the existing material, color and texture are assessed at the estimate so you know what is achievable before work begins.

Veteran owned and operated, License #CPC1457580. Pool decks for homes, builders, HOAs and apartment complexes across Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco since 1989.

An older deck that has settled or pooled may be a candidate for pool deck removal, replacement and coping work, which is the concrete and hardscape side of a remodel. If you would rather have individual units you can swap out later, see paver installation, repair and sealing. Either way, the first step is the same: tell us what you have and send the job details, and Warren Perkins’ crew will read the ground.

In most cases, yes. We assess the existing material, color, and texture during the estimate and let you know what's achievable before work begins.

Yes. We handle commercial pool deck installation and repair in addition to residential work. Commercial estimates are provided within 10 days.

Yes. Coping replacement is a standalone service. We assess whether the surrounding deck condition warrants additional work and let you know, but we don't require a full remodel to replace coping.
